Jackpot Grants for fiscal 2007

Jackpot Grants are
awarded quarterly following a competitive application process and assist
artists and arts organizations in producing projects such as visual arts
exhibitions and theatrical performances as well as travel to
conferences.
First Quarter Jackpot Grants:
Eleven individuals and one organization will share
$6,285 in the first quarter of FY07 Jackpot Grant funding in support of various arts projects and professional development
activities for artists that take in place between July 1 and September 30, 2006.

Erin Elsye Burns,
Reno, $900 To develop
a professional visual arts portfolio for marketing and promotion.
§
James Cho,
Henderson, $615 To produce a documentary video Bamboo Road, which
chronicles a Shakulhachi flutist as he performs throughout the western
landscape.
§
Ezra L. Dame,
Reno, $300 To write
the first phase of an autobiography.
§
Peter Goin,
Reno, $900 To complete multiple image panels using photography
and digital technology at the Voyager National Park in NM. Two
Minneapolis museums will exhibit the work in FY08.
§
Joanne Grauer,
Reno, $600 To provide a free concert by the Joanne Grauer Group
at the Park Lane Mall in July.
§
Toni Lowden,
Reno, $750 To produce marketing materials for ARTouring artist studio
tours.
§
Jarbidge Arts Council,
Jarbidge, $500 To present a concert by the Idaho Junior
Jammers at the Jarbidge Pioneer Park dedication in August.
§
Phillippe Mazaud,
Reno, $570 For
preparation and exhibition of his photography at the Stremmel Gallery
during the Artown Festival in July.
§
Paula Riley,
Reno, $850 To attend the Square Valley 2006 Community of Writers
Summer Fiction Writing Workshop.
§
Cheri Renee Watkins,
Las Vegas, $300 To
research and write a biography about the life and work of African
American painter Annie Lee.
Second
Quarter Jackpot Grants
Four individuals and three organizations will share $6,514 in the second
quarter of FY07 Jackpot Grant funding in support of various arts
projects and professional development activities for artists taking
place between October 1 and December 31, 2006.

Jennifer R. Baumer, Reno, $514 - To attend the MileHiCon 38
conference in Denver, CO.

danceSpirit Performing Arts,
Carson City, $1,000 - To support production of "Ebenezer-Scrooge -
Jazz'd up like the Dickens!" to be performed at the Carson City
Community Center in December.

Cecelia Gable, Reno, $1,000 - To support the creation of an
arrangement for vocal performances with orchestras and symphonies.

John R. Mincer, Fallon, $1,000 - To take classes and study with Franz
Marktl, a master engraver and silversmith.

The Reno Dance Company, Inc.,
Reno, $1,000 - To support the performance of Reno's Hometown
Nutcracker at Montbleu Resort Casino and Spa in Lake Tahoe in
December.

Sierra Nevada College- English Program,
Incline Village, $1,000 - To sponsor a poetry
reading by writers Ingrid Wendt and Ralph Salisbury.

James C. Christison, Golconda, $1,000 - To provide painting
workshops for the Northern Nevada Art League in Winnemucca.
Third
Quarter Jackpot Grants
Ten individuals and three organizations will share $9,129 in the third
quarter of FY07 Jackpot Grant funding in support of various arts
projects and professional development activities for artists taking
place between January 1 and March 31, 2007.

Carolyn M. Brown,
printmaker working in Japanese Woodblock Prints of the mokuhanga
technique, Reno $800 To attend the New York Botanical Garden
Orchid Exhibit to record three-dimensional visual information of the
orchids and bring it back to the studio to use to carve images into
wood and print. The exhibit runs from Feb. 24 - April 8, 2007.

photographer, Reno $813 To assist with costs associated for an
upcoming exhibit of his recent works at the University Art Gallery
of CA, Stanislaus March 22 - April 26, 2007 in Turlock, CA.

Carson Valley Community Theatre,
Minden $638 To support "Blackjack Bottom," a country western
musical written and directed by a local artist, March 9 25, 2007.

Susan Glaser Church,
sculptor and filmmaker, Elko $650 To assist in the production of
a video, "The Work of Their Hands," highlighting the creative
process of 8 women artists at work in their Great Basin studios, to
serve as an educational and promotional video.

Mathew V. Dodge,
visual artist, Incline Village $372 To assist with costs
associated with an upcoming exhibit of recent work at the North
Tahoe Art Center in February 2007.

Denise R. Duarte,
visual artist, Las Vegas $863 To assist with the costs to
install and exhibit the Women of Diversity Triad Tower as part of
the 100 Years of Influence, The Role of Women in Shaping the
First Hundred Years of Las Vegas exhibit at the Nevada State
Library and Archives, Carson City, from January 15 through March 31,
2007.

exhibiting paintings at the Wiseman Gallery in February 2007.
